Des Plaines' Mayor Martin J. Moylan visited the Open House when Anderson Lock celebrated 50 years in business. He is pictured here with company president Cortney Anderson Wascher and her husband, Devin Wascher.
Anderson Lock, now in its fourth location on Oakton Street, was founded in 1960 by Gene Anderson, five years after Ray Kroc opened his first McDonald's Restaurant in Des Plaines. A reconstructed McDonald's serves as a museum, but Mike Didier, one of the first Anderson Lock technicians, remembers installing locks on the original golden-arch building.
Anderson Lock techs have installed so many auxiliary locks on small businesses and homes in this area that long-time employees say, "Anderson Lock deadlocked Des Plaines."
United Airlines, which is headquartered in Chicago, and which has its largest hub at nearby O'Hare airport, has been an Anderson Lock customer for nearly all of the 50-plus years.
When Des Plaines' residents come into our showroom to get a key duplicated they are often amazed at the thousands of keyblanks hanging from hooks behind the busy front counters. A video monitor, mounted above the key blanks, is connected to security cameras and a DVR, to demonstrate some of the access control products Anderson Lock installs. An Electronics Lab in one corner of the showroom shows how Schlage's web-based "bright blue" electronic access control system controls a variety of different locks. Decorator hardware, safes, door closers, exit hardware and both mechanical and electronic locks are also on display in the shiny showroom.
