Jim Walsh says, "No-no! Don't prop a door open with a broom handle!"

“No-no!” warns Jim Walsh, “Don’t prop doors open like this with a broom or mop handle!”

Broom and mop handles used to prop open doors, while janitorial crews clean, cause more interior door frame failures in hospitals and schools than anything else, according to Anderson Lock’s Sales Manager, Jim Walsh. Over time, the handles dent the frames, bend the hinge brackets, and sometimes even break the welds in metal frames. Another common cause of frame failure is repeated impact from carts, or other equipment. On exterior door frames, corrosion, impact from cars or equipment, and, damage from break-ins are Common Frame Failure Culprits.

Upgrading door openings in institutional and commercial buildings requires a wide variety of frame sizes, gauges and styles to match all the different architectural wall and door types. Frames can include windows above, and on both sides of the opening, and frame components are also used in the construction of window “walls.” We stock KD (Knock Down) frame sticks for drywall or masonry walls, as well as a wide variety of profiles for welded frames.

The latest fabricating technology, combined with frame components from Steelcraft and Curries (the best-quality hollow metal door and frame manufacturers in the industry) results in finished frames that can be fit into any custom sized opening. A fifth welding station has recently been added to our busy Door Division, and new welders have been welcomed to keep up with the growing demand for hot welded door frames. Punch presses make precise cuts for the openings needed for metal door hardware, light kits and louvers. All visible welds are ground smooth for a clean, finished look.
