Providing an environment where all individuals feel welcome and supported, the Church of the Holy Nativity is committed to creating an inclusive space that meets the needs of every visitor.
The Church faced several “key” accessibility challenges. The automatic operator at the main entrance stopped functioning properly, creating a barrier for parishioners and guests trying to enter the building. Upstairs, the second-floor unisex restrooms lacked ADA-compliant access, limiting usability for those with mobility needs. Determined to make their space more inclusive, Reverend Brad Linboom reached out to our Estimating Department for technical advice.
At the front entrance, the original door mechanism was replaced with a new automatic door operator to restore accessibility and ensure dependable use. Our technicians installed a Motion Access operator, using an aluminum backplate to ensure proper alignment, stability, and performance. As part of the upgrade, wireless technology was added, including new receivers and a touchless exterior actuator, improving convenience and internal control from the church office. Hands-free access reduces contact points and makes entry easier for those with mobility aids, strollers, or full hands.
Upstairs, the focus turned to the second-floor unisex restrooms, where our access control technicians installed Norton 5800 ADAEZ low energy operators. These self-powered units offer quiet performance and ease of use, making them ideal for retrofitting spaces needing improved ADA compliance without extensive wiring or structural changes. Each door was fitted with wireless wall-mounted actuators, allowing hands-free entry for all users.
Automatic door operators have become increasingly popular in recent years—not only as a response to the demand for touchless access during Covid, but also as a long-term solution for accommodating an aging population, improving traffic flow, and enhancing accessibility across all types of facilities.
The Church of the Holy Nativity made a meaningful investment in both functionality and inclusivity. The new operator systems ensure that parishioners, staff, and visitors can access the space with ease and confidence.
Reverend Linboom commented, “The service was great. The techs went above and beyond to get the job done!”
