Overview

Two sets of tall, worn out, windowed entrance doors at a Chicago-area synagogue were replaced by Anderson Lock techs on steamy, hot August days.

Service Estimator, John Didier, points out that, “Retrofit installations, like this, are more challenging than new construction because of tight tolerances. Fitting new framing next to switches, cameras and other door accessories, which were added after the original doors and frames were in place, requires precise measuring, accurate ordering, and skilled installers.”

A team of Anderson Lock techs removed existing doors, hardware and sidelites, then installed new Special-Lite FRP (Fiber Reinforced Polymer) doors. The custom commercial FRP doors’ wood-like surface grain was stained to match the old doors. Security door hardware, including a card reader and electrified Von Duprin 99 exit devices, as well as mechanical combination locks, were installed.

The exterior pair of original, decades-old doors, each with 12 small square windows and matching interior vestibule doors were all replaced. The FRP doors feature five SGG (Security Glass Glazing) windows, which allow more light and appear more welcoming, while also being  more secure. Thus, this aesthetically appealing new door design creates a durable, dependable security solution.

An article in the July / August, 2023, issue of Security Today magazine addressed increased security concerns “across the full spectrum of holy places – shrines, cathedrals, synagogues, mosques, megachurches, and even their related schools. Nothing seems to be sacred.”

The text continued: “Like it or not, the universal truth today is that it is absolutely necessary for houses of worship to increase security so the faithful have peace of mind that they can continue to learn, reflect, pray, and celebrate in safety and comfort.”

Didier has worked with a member of the synagogue security committee on countless other door and hardware projects.

He said, “I keep coming back for all my door security needs because its been proven time and time again that I can trust Anderson Lock’s service and support.”

In fact, he has already requested to have Anderson Lock installation techs return to the synagogue soon to replace another set of original doors, frames and security door hardware for a side entrance a hundred yards away.
