OVERVIEW

Constructed in 1853, this historic Theological Seminary  building graces a prestigious university campus.

In May 2023, an immense project began that would require bringing the past and present together. The general contractor in charge of the project realized that modern technologies needed to be incorporated while maintaining the seminary’s architectural integrity. Anderson Lock was hired to install a cutting-edge access control system to increase safety for staff and students. Guided with the expertise of our access control estimator, Jeff Asta, the installation of the Acre RS2 Access It software could begin. The system’s deployment involved strategically placing four controllers throughout the main building and dormitory; card readers were installed on 23 doors, two elevators, and two parking gates.

Aside from its technical complexity, wiring had to be run through the walls without disrupting the beauty and historic architecture of the building. The masonry company had to grind out channels inside the walls for our technicians to route the wires. Then, our techs replaced exit devices, door closers and related door hardware. Proceeding to the next phase of the project, 30 wireless locksets were installed in the main campus’s interior classrooms and offices. The access control system was also added to each entrance in the dormitory. Enabling remote monitoring and security would not only improve safety, but would also offer convenience for professors, staff, and students.

Jeff Asta says, “Preserving the building’s historic architecture while implementing a new software system was challenging at times, but our teamwork made it possible. I am very proud of our success and dedication to this project!”

With increasing concerns about campus and school safety, it is essential to protect students and staff from possible threats. By installing access control systems and wireless locksets, we enable educational institutions to create secure learning environments, and ensure peace of mind.
