Recycling Excellence Award

Recycling Excellence Award

Q.  Recycle 5 tons of cardboard and what do you get?

A.  A Recycling Excellence Award…

…from International Paper for conserving natural resources, reducing energy and material use and minimizing pollution. The award was sent via email with an invitation to print: “Feel free to print this e-mail. Paper is a biodegradable, renewable, sustainable product made from trees. Growing and harvesting trees is good for the environment. It provides clean air, clean water, wildlife habitat and carbon storage.”

After so much snow it’s nice to see a bit of green, even if it’s green ink on white paper!

Attaboys to Anderson Lock’s Door Division Warehouse Team for earning this award for their 2013 Achievement of recycling 4.8950 tons of cardboard. Glenn Franger, Warehouse Foreman, says that steel doors are shipped on cardboard pallets, with sheets of cardboard between doors. When a stack of packaging waste accumulates it is loaded on our delivery truck and taken to the recycling plant.

Our waste paper and metal are recycled through other means. Anderson Lock constantly looks for ways to reduce its impact on the environment. In addition to recycling, we’ve become Chain-of-Custody certified to sell wood products that have positive environmental attributes backed by a global system of verification. We’ve also changed to lower energy lighting, added reduced energy vehicles to our service fleet, and invested in a computer mapping program to schedule service techs’ trips with mile-saving routes.
