“It has been an honor (and a challenge!) to serve as President of the largest community of door security and safety professionals for the past year,” wrote Cortney Anderson Wascher, in the June/July 2024 DHI Door Security + Safety magazine.  She thanked the Board of Governors “for all the hours spent this past year in helping set and achieve many of our strategic goals.”

The magazine’s ‘In Touch’ essay, titled, “A Year of Accomplishment in Education and Credentialing” described DHI’s commitment to educating more members, which led to several course revisions completed in 2023. She described several of the changes and announced that their expanded and updated offerings were drawing increased enrollments and notably positive evaluations.

Cortney also thanked volunteers who led training classes across the country, and noted that there had been a surplus of volunteers for the 2024 Spring Classroom Series. New volunteer-led webinars will further showcase member expertise. Another progressive initiative is transforming the DHI Management Summit into DHI’s Annual Leadership Meeting in Spring 2026. Strong attendance, dynamic speakers, enhanced education, and networking, are anticipated at this unique industry forum.

James Gammon, MBA, CFDAI, newly named DHI Chief Executive Officer (CEO), and the newly elected Board of Governors, fully support this new strategic direction.

Cortney quoted Ralph Waldo Emerson, an American poet, philosopher and essayist on the virtues of education, who wrote, “Be an opener of doors to those who come after you…”

She concluded the magazine article, applauding “DHI’s commitment to updating and enhancing our educational programs is opening our industry’s doors to new talent, and to a vibrant future.” Then writing, “I open the door to DHI’s new President, Lewie Smith, CFDAI, who shares my passion for education and advancing the industry.”
